Lub you!

This morning the cutest thing happened!! Abby knew she was about to leave for school, so she said "Bye Bye Daddy! Lub you!" He told her he loved her too and then about 1 minute later she started saying it to him over and over: "Lub you! Lub you daddy! Lub you!" Jason was checking his email and didn't respond right away so she just kept saying it. It was so cute!! This was the first time she has said that she loved either of us without us saying it first.

Job Description: PARENT

POSITION:
Mom, Mommy, Mama, Ma, Dad, Daddy, Dada, Pa, Pop

JOB DESCRIPTION:
Long-term team players needed for challenging, permanent work in an often chaotic environment. Candidates must possess excellent communication and organizational skills and be willing to work variable hours, which will include evenings and weekends. Frequent 24 hour shifts on call. Some overnight travel required, including trips to primitive camping sites on rainy weekends and endless sports tournaments in faraway cities! Travel expenses not reimbursed. Extensive courier duties also required.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
These continue for the rest of your life. Must be willing to be hated, at least temporarily, until someone needs $5. Must be willing to bite tongue repeatedly. Also, must possess the physical stamina of a pack mule and be able to go from zero to 60 mph in three seconds flat in case, this time, the screams from the backyard are not someone just crying wolf. Must be willing to face stimulating technical challenges, such as small gadget repair, mysteriously sluggish toilets and stuck zippers. Must screen phone calls, maintain calendars and coordinate production of multiple homework projects. Must have ability to plan and organize social gatherings for clients of all ages and mental outlooks. Must be willing to be indispensable one minute, and an embarrassment the next. Must handle assembly and product safety testing of a half million cheap plastic toys, and battery-operated devices. Must always hope for the best but be prepared for the worst. Must assume final, complete accountability for the quality of the end product. Responsibilities also include floor maintenance and janitorial work throughout the facility.

POSSIBILITY FOR ADVANCEMENT & PROMOTION:
None. Your job is to remain in the same position for years, without complaining, constantly retraining and updating your skills, so that those in your charge can ultimately surpass you.

PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE:
None required, unfortunately. On-the-job training offered on a continually exhausting basis.

WAGES AND COMPENSATION:
Get this: You pay them! Offering frequent raises and bonuses. A balloon payment is due when they turn 18 because of the assumption that college will help them become financially independent when you die, and you give them whatever is left. The oddest thing about this reverse-salary scheme is that you actually enjoy it and wish you could only do more.

BENEFITS:
While no health or dental insurance, no pension, no tuition reimbursement, no paid holidays and no stock options are offered, this job supplies limitless opportunities for personal growth, unconditional love, and free hugs and kisses for life if you play your cards right.

THERE IS NO RETIREMENT -- EVER!!!

Happy Retirement!!

Happy Retirement Day Dad!! After a long career at Shell (his entire career), my dad completed his last day of work today and entered into retirement. He has plans on his first day off to go golfing. We are all jealous!!

Trip

Being a mom is a trip! Abby is at such a cute age now where she is proving how independent she is and she can really express what she is thinking to you. This evening we called my parents and my brother, just so she could say hi. She was the one who told me that is what she wanted to do.

Her favorite phrase right now is "No, Mama. Abby do it." She does everything herself! She climbs into her high chair on her own, drinks out of a non-sippy cup on her own, buckles her car seat on her own, washes her own hands, etc.

We have been talking about the potty a lot lately to get her ready for potty training in the next few months and she loves taking the baby potty seat, putting it onto the big potty, and then sitting on it herself (after climbing up on her stool).

I have been horrible with pictures lately and it has been keeping me from blogging. I do plan on posting all of the pictures from the last few months, as well as the cute Easter pictures that I'm sure we will have after this weekend. But, since so many cute things happen every day, I'm going to try to start blogging about them even when I don't have any pictures to go with it.

One of my favorite things that happened today was that she kept checking with me to be sure she was a "big girl". During the process of brushing her teeth, she climbed up onto her stool by herself, turned the water on herself (not on full blast but "just a little"), she put the toothpaste on her brush by herself, and when she was done she got down by herself. After each one of these accomplishments she would look at me as if to say "Did you see that!! I just did that all by myself!" She just asks "Abby a big girl?". I am so proud of her!

Christmas at the Heisler's

We spent Christmas day and a few days afterwards at the Heisler house. Kim's grandparents, David (with girlfriend Marisa), and Uncle Tom were there. Mimi, Kim's mom, was a great hostess and made fantastic meals while we were there!!! At both Christmas celebrations, Abby loved opening her presents. She had so much fun playing with each thing after we opened it. Therefore, she was always the last to finish opening her gifts. David took some great pictures of everyone while we were there.

Christmas at the Allen's

Fortunately everyone was well for Christmas so we were able to spend a lot of time with family. We spent a few nights before Christmas with Jason's family. Abby had so much fun playing with her cousins: Megan, Chase, Aubrey, and Julia. We had a wonderful time and were so happy to spend some time with everyone!!

Christmas in New York City

The week before Christmas, Jason and I went to New York City for a vacation. The day that we left a blizzard was planned to hit the North East. Our flight landed on time, and the snow waited until after we reached our hotel to start. It was crazy... there was no snow when we arrived and the next morning there was about a foot of it. The highlights of our trip were shopping on 5th Avenue and at Bloomingdales, walking through Central Park, and seeing the Christmas Spectacular starring the Rockettes at the Radio City Music Hall.

Here are some of our pics:
